Private label wound care in Mexico: MOQs, lead times and the USMCA advantage

Surgical tape and adhesive cloth manufactured by Quirmex

Retailers, pharmacy chains and distributors increasingly launch their own wound-care brand instead of reselling. Manufacturing in Mexico makes that easier for the Americas — here's how the programme works from a manufacturer's side.

1. Pick the starter range

The fastest-moving private-label wound-care set is a small, complete block: absorbent cotton (two or three weights), sterile gauze (one or two sizes), elastic bandages (10 and 15 cm), a surgical tape and cotton swabs. That occupies a visible shelf and shares packaging tooling.

2. Minimum orders

Because wound care is light and high-cube, the practical export minimum is a container — but a mixed container across several references is normal for a first order, which keeps the per-SKU quantity reasonable.

3. Realistic timeline

StageTypical duration
Brief, spec match and quotation1–2 weeks
Pre-production samples and approval2–4 weeks
Artwork and packaging procurement3–6 weeks
Production run and QC release2–4 weeks
Ocean/land freight to destination1–4 weeks (Americas)

Plan roughly two to four months from first call to landed product — faster than most Asian programmes, partly because transit to the Americas is short.

4. Registration documents you'll receive

For your import registration we provide ISO 13485 and COFEPRIS GMP documentation, product technical sheets, pharmacopoeia compliance statements and a certificate of analysis per lot. Your local agent files the actual registration.

5. The USMCA advantage

Mexican-origin product can qualify for preferential USMCA duty into the US and Canada — frequently the deciding factor versus Asian sourcing now that tariffs on Chinese medical goods are higher. We supply the certification of origin.

Send your target range, market and volumes and we'll return a feasibility answer with indicative pricing, MOQs and a timeline within days.

Frequently asked questions

Can I start with one product?

You can, but most launches open with 4–6 references so the brand holds a shelf block; a mixed container keeps per-SKU volumes sensible.

Who handles label regulations?

You own the brand claims; we check mandatory medical-device texts against your destination market before printing, and supply the compliance documents.

Do you sign confidentiality agreements?

Yes — recipes, specifications and artwork developed for your brand stay confidential to your programme.
